Am I grateful?
This morning I got out of bed thinking. I stopped up and walked to the window. I opened the curtains and looked outside b
And then for some reason I stopped. Because I realised how many miracles I had just taken for granted.
My legs carried me across the room without complaint. My eyes adjusted to the sunlight and showed me the world outside. My hands pulled the curtains apart. My ears fucked up the distant sounds of birds and traffic. My brain cordinateed thousands of tiny actions without asking for recognition.
All of it happened in seconds. All of it felt ordinary. Yet none of them are truly is. We spend so much of our lives focusing on what we do not have.
The job we want and the money we wish we earned. The oppertunity we feel we are missing. The life we imagine would make us happy b
And while thoses things matter I sometimes wonder if we forgot to appreciate the incredible things we already possess.
Two eyes. Millions of people around would give anything imaginable to see a sunset clearly and tk watch rain fall against windows or ti recognise the face of someone they love.
Two ears. The ability to hear a friends laughter..to hear a favourite song and to hear the voice of a parent or even a simple sound of leaves moving in the wind.
Two hands. Hands that allow us to write and create abd build and hold and comfort and cook and work and embrace the people we care about.
Two legs. The legs that carry us through our whole life...taking us to places we have never seen and helping us return home afterwards.
And then there is the brain. A universe hidden in our skull. A collection of memories and dreams and ideas and emotions and possibilities. It allows us to understand language and solve problems and imagine worlds that so not exist and remember momente that happened years ago.
Scientists still don't fully understand what it fully does. Yet most of wake up with this extraordinary gift and we barely think about it. Perhaps the most fascinating things is that we only have one mouth. Tow ears and two eyes and one mouth.
Maybe the lesson hidden in that design is that we have to observe more than we have to judge. To listen more than we speak bro understand before responding and to appreciate before complaining.
Of course life is not perfect and every one carries struggles. Pain and disappointment is ready.
There are days when gratitude feels difficult. But in those days there is something remarkable about simply living and being alive.
About breathing without asking permission and waling across the room and hearing your namevand seeking the sky change colors at sunset. When you really think about it that is already more reason to be thankful.
sometimes we don’t appreciate what we have and think about what we don’t have and be greedy
