A walk without a plan

AnonymousAug 14, 2026508 words

Going out for a walk without having a particular destination can feel strangely and nice. Most of the time when I leave the house, there is some reason behind it. I need to buy something, go somewhere, meet someone or finish some work. Walking just for the sake of walking fees different because there is nothing I need to reach.

I decided to take a walk recently without really planning where I was going. I just put on my shoes, took my phone with me and left. I did not have a specific route in my mind. I thought I would walk for a little wide and come back whenever I felt like it.

At first, I kept thinking about where I should go. I am so used to having a purpose first. Everything that working around without one felt slightly strange. After a few minutes, though I stopped thinking about it.

I started noticing things around me that I usually ignore. There were people going around their day, shops, opening, cars passing, and children playing nearby. I had probably seen these things many times before, but because I was not in hurry, I actually paid attention to them.

I also noticed how different are similar road. Can look when we you are walking instead of passing through it quickly. Then you are in a car or the Metro. Everything moves past you so quickly that you do not notice a small details. Walking gives you more time to look around.

At one point, I stopped near a shop because I noticed something in the window. I was not planning to buy anything, but I stood there for a few minutes anyway. Normally, I might have walked past without even noticing.

My phone was with me, but I did not use it much. I did not check it once or twice out of habit, but then I put it back in my pocket. It felt good not to constantly checking messages or scrolling through something.

The work also give me time to think. Not about anything, particularly serious. My thoughts were just moving from one thing to another. I remembered something I had to do later, thought about our conversation from a few days ago, notice the weather and then forget about all of it.

I think that is what I like most. I was not trying to solve anything.

Usually, when I have free time, I feel like I should use it for something productive. I should study, organise something. Reply to messages. Complete some task. Walking without a person reminded me that free time does not always have to use for achieving something.

Sometime we become so focused on reaching the next thing we forget to notice where we are right now. A simple walk without a plan and reminder us to slow down for a while.

I might do it again sometime. Not because I need exercise or some where to go, but simply because it feels nice to walk without having to reach anywhere.

You have some free time and can do whatever you want, you
