A gallery full of “just in case” photos
My phone gallery is full of photos that make absolutely no sense. Some are useless still, they still feel important to me. There are screenshot of funny Memes, pictures of sunset, random food, outfit I want to buy, cute dog that i saw on the street and even photos I took by accident. If someone looked through my gallery, they would probably wonder why I decided to save half of these photos.
Every time I take one of these photos, I tell myself the same thing “i will need this later”. The funny part is that “later” almost never comes. Weeks, months or even years was and those photos quietly stay in my gallery without even being opened again. Sometimes I recite to clean up my storage because my Phone reminds me that it’s almost full. I confidently start deleting pictures, thinking it will only take a few minutes. But then I stop at a random photo and try to remember why I took it in first place. Was I planning to buy that pair of shoes? Did I even make that recipe? Why did I save a picture of a cafe menu from two years ago?
Some photos don’t even have a story behind them. They are simply random moments that caught my attention. A beautiful cloud, a colourful sunset and interesting book cover or a funny sign on the road. I don’t always need a reason to take a picture. Sometime, I just want to capture a moment before it disappears. Then there are screenshots, I probably have hundreds of them. Quotes I want to remember, songs I planned to listen to, product products. I thought I would order and social media post. I found interesting. Most of them stay forgotten in a folder that caves growing every week.
The strange thing is that I enjoy saving these photos, even if I never look at them again. Maybe taking the picture feels like telling myself the moment is worth keeping. It gives me the comfort of knowing that I can revisit it whenever I want even if I never actually do. Once in a while, my phone surprised me by showing an old memory. It might be a random picture from years ago that I completely Forgot existed. Those unexpected reminders often make me smile because they bring back small moments that I would have never remembered on my own.
Of course, my gallery could probably use some organisation. I always promise myself that I will sort everything into album one day, but somehow that day never arrives. Instead, I continue adding more photos to the collection.
Looking at my gallery, I realise it is not just a collection of picture. It is a collection of Little moments that caught my attention even if only for a second. I may never look at most of them again and that’s perfectly fine. Sometime the joy is not in revisiting the photo. It is knowing that for one small moment I thought it was worth saving.

I feel we preserve memories with those photos. each photo does not need to have a story or significance. if a photo reminds you of something then it is not unnecessary
> This was such a comforting read. I loved how it found meaning in something as ordinary as a cluttered phone gallery. It reminded me that not every photo has to tell a grand story—sometimes preserving a fleeting moment is enough. Quietly nostalgic and beautifully relatable.
> I really enjoyed this. It takes something so ordinary—a cluttered phone gallery—and turns it into a thoughtful reflection on memory and the little moments we instinctively choose to keep. It felt relatable, nostalgic, and quietly comforting. Sometimes the photos we never revisit are still worth saving because they remind us that, for a brief moment, something made us stop and pay attention.
