A call during dinner

AnonymousOct 25, 2026Write Freely198 words

My phone 📱 rang while everything was sitting down to eat I almost ignored it assuming the call could wait but something madevme check the screen it was a family member asking a simple question about tomorrow's plans the conversation took less than a minute yet it made the evening.

After hanging up, , I returned to the table and listened more carefully to the conversation already happening. I realized I often divide attention between people physically present and people reaching me from elsewhere. There is no perfect balance, but I can at least choose when to be fully here.

I have noticed that I was doing the same since my college days. Me and my friend used to study in group..just the two of us and I was the one who is mostly distracted...sometimes I miss our study group session and I wish that I actually paid attention to what we was studying so that we could complete studying fast and spend some time talking and making fun but I was distracted...I did not know the value of the moment I had at that time and Instead my head was somewhere else and now I regret it

That quote really stayed with me - "There is no perfect balance, but I can at least choose when to be fully here." So relatable, we all get that urge to ignore the phone during dinner thinking it can wait. And that one minute call actually made the evening better, and then listening more carefully to the conversation at the table. It's a small reminder to be present where we are. Really liked this one.

Sometimes we realise the value of a moment only after it becomes a memory. ❤️ We get so caught up in our thoughts that we forget to enjoy the people and experiences right in front of us. The beautiful thing is that these memories can still teach us to be more present in the moments we have today. We cannot change the past, but we can make the present count. ✨
